2022-2023 Executives

Sarah Han, President

Sarah is a fourth-year student at the University of Toronto pursuing a double major in Actuarial Science and Physics. She has completed four internship terms at RSA (now Intact), Foresters, and Intact. Sarah has previously held the role of Director of Events for ANÉA-ASNA 2021, President-Elect for 2022, and is honoured to be serving as President for this year. She looks forward to learning about the various needs of actuarial students and working with her talented team to further develop ANÉA-ASNA’s offerings into more accessible and engaging programs to students across Canada. Samantha Intranuovo, President-Elect

Samantha is a third-year student pursuing an honours double major in Data Science and Consumer Behaviour. Outside school, she plays on the varsity lacrosse team and directs the local women’s field lacrosse program. Sam has interned at RBC and CAAT Pension Plan. She previously held the role of VP Administration for ANÉA-ASNA 2022 and is honoured to serve as President-Elect this year. Sam is eager to engage students from across the country to inspire the next generation of actuaries. She looks forward to working with the unique set of individuals the actuarial industry provides and would love to connect with as much of the community as possible, so please do not hesitate to reach out!

Thurell Tchana, Convention Chair

Thurell is an upcoming fourth-year student majoring in Actuarial Mathematics at Concordia University. He completed three internships in the past: one with Intact in Fall 2020, one with Mercer in Summer 2021 and his last one with Sun Life in Winter 2022. He will be sitting for Exam SRM in September, after passing 5 actuarial exams in the last 2 years. Thurell has been attending ANÉA-ASNA since 2019 and he’s looking forward to leading the Convention Team this year filled with highly motivated and ambitious people. After the great experience he had last year as the Director of Logistics and Finance, he decided to join the team once again! As the Convention Chair, Thurell will be in charge of the preparation for the 2023 ASNA Convention! When he’s not getting involved in student life or just studying, he loves to play and watch soccer, go to the gym and watch Netflix shows like Casa de Papel or Ozark. Brayden Walcarius, VP Finance

Brayden is a fifth-year student in the BMath/BBA Double Degree program, offered jointly by the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University, pursuing a double major in Actuarial Science and Statistics. He has completed Exams P, FM, and IFM. Brayden also has internship experience at Canada Life, Intact, and Heartland Farm Mutual. He attended his first ASNA convention last year and had such a great time that he wanted to get involved with the team. He is very excited for the opportunity to serve as Vice-President of Finance, focussing on budget planning and financial decision-making for the organization. Beyond his passion for actuarial science, Brayden enjoys working on the family farm, playing card games, and is always playing or watching sports. Juntae Park, VP Business Relations

Juntae is a fourth year student at the University of Toronto majoring in Actuarial Science with minors in Computer Science and Maths. He is currently studying for MAS-1 and has interned at Milliman Chicago and Intact/Brokerlink. After having served as the Vice President of Communications in the past year’s conference, Juntae looks forward to another wonderful year of ASNA.

Isaac Marchand, VP Quebec

Isaac is a second-year student at Laval University, majoring in Actuarial science. He is the VP external affairs for the actuarial students association at his University, and he is passionate about the financial side of actuarial science. As VP Quebec, he strives to increase the visibility of ASNA in the Universities with the lowest participation rate and to create more possibilities for the French speaking students. In his free time Isaac, loves to go for a hike, to exercise at the gym or to watch some Football/Baseball.

Muhammad Raza Nasser, VP Ontario

Muhammad Raza Nasser is a fourth-year Actuarial Science student at the University of Waterloo and has been a part of the ANEA-ASNA community for the past four years.

He has been involved with ASNA in the capacity of  Delegate, Head Delegate and Director of Sales and will now be working with the Executive team as the VP Ontario. He has further showcased his passion for Actuarial Science by passing exams P, FM and IFM. Additionally, he has worked as Actuarial Intern for Echelon Insurance and SwissRe.

Besides his passion for actuarial science, Raza is also a huge sports fan, especially soccer.

He also loves meeting new people, so be sure to say hi if you see him around.

Gabriel Penalver, VP Atlantic

Gabriel Peñalver is a fifth-year student at the University of Prince Edward Island, pursuing a double major in Actuarial Science and Statistics, along with a minor in Business Administration. He is returning to ASNA again as VP Atlantic, a position he held in the 2021-2022 year. Gabriel has passed exams FM and IFM, and is planning to sit for P later in the year. He is interning at Sun Life as an actuarial analyst during the summer. His main goal this year is to continue to push for sustained growth in the field of Actuarial Science for students in the Atlantic region.

Gabriel is a sports fanatic, both as a fan and a baseball player. He loves meeting new people so don’t hesitate to connect with him via LinkedIn or say hi if you see him around!

Hannah Edel, VP West

Hannah is a fourth-year actuarial science student at the University of Calgary. She has passed exams P, FM and IFM and has completed internships at Canada Life and Definity. She has attended the past two ASNA conventions and was the head delegate for her university last year. Hannah is excited to be the VP West and be a part of this year’s conference again. Fong Liu, VP Case Competition

Fong is a second-year student at the University of Waterloo majoring in Actuarial Science and Statistics and minoring in Economics. She served ANÉA-ASNA as the Director of Design on the convention committee for the 2021/2022 term and as the Delegate for the University of Waterloo. She has passed 3 preliminary actuarial exams and has an actuarial internship experience at Intact and will be working at Sun Life this fall. As this year’s VP Case Competition, her goal is to attract more students to participate in the case competition and create an online community to best support participants throughout the case preparation period and help participants to build meaningful network with each other!

Amisha Laad VP Communications

Amisha is a third year Actuarial Science & Statistics student at the University of Waterloo. She has passed four exams . She will be interning as an Actuarial consultant at Oliver Wyman during Fall 2022.She has completed her previous co-ops at Sun Life and Munich Re. Amisha has been a part of various extra curricular activities such as being the Director of Sponsorship for UW-Quantify 2022, mentorship coordinator for the UW ActSci Club and participating in Actuarial Case Competitions : Munich Re Cup 2021, UW-Quantify 2020. Her passion and interest for the industry has led her to the role of VP Communications. In her spare time she likes reading, watching movies and hiking. She looks forward to meeting you all at the 2023 ASNA Convention.

Duro Ogunsola, VP Administration

Duro is a 3rd year Actuarial and Computer Science Student at the University of Western Ontario. He has great interest in the actuarial industry, and he aspires to rise to the top of his field. 

Duro has completed two internship placements with RBC, and will be writing Exams P and FM in the upcoming months. 

Outside of class, Duro enjoys working out, reading current news, improving himself, and catching up with his friends. After attending ASNA’s virtual convention in March 2022, he decided that he needed to be apart of the executive team to help coordinate an even better event in-person in 2023. Sailesh Kumar, Webmaster

Sailesh is a fourth-year Actuarial Science & Statistics student at the University of Waterloo. He has passed four exams. He has completed his previous co-ops at Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Sun Life. Sailesh has taken part in numerous extracurricular activities such as being part of the UW ActSci club and UW Quantify 2020 case competition. He likes to read and play badminton. Shreya Joshi, Future Actuary

Shreya Joshi is a third-year student majoring in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics at McMaster University. She joined ASNA in 2021 as a Head Delegate for MacU and is excited to join ASNA’s 2022 Executive team as a Future Actuary. Her goal is to promote the actuarial field and encourage more students to attend actuarial events at ASNA. She is currently preparing for Exam FM this fall and she is a member of the McMaster Actuarial Society as a Marketing Director. She also has a passion for books and loves reading during her free time. She loves meeting new people is excited to meet you all during the 2023 convention!

Vishal Aggarwal, Future Actuary

Vishal Aggarwal is a second year student at Western University pursuing an Honours specialisation in Actuarial Sciences and has previously interned on the Belair Pricing team in the summer of 2022.

Vishal was motivated to be more active in the actuarial community after attending his first ANEA-ASNA convention in 2022. This led him to take on roles as Head Delegate for Western University, Executive on the Actuarial and Statistical Undergraduate Association, and now Future actuary. He is very excited to be part of the convention committee this year and looks forward to giving back to the actuarial student community again this year.

Thurell Tchana, Convention Chair

Harry Qu, Director of Sponsorship

Harry is a fourth year Actuarial Science, Statistics, and Joint Computer Science student at the University of Waterloo. His love for financial modelling was kindled in early childhood as he attempted to optimize his decisions and rack up the most money to beat his family at Milton Bradley’s The Game of Life. Now, armed with knowledge from his studies, the only challenge that remains is finding people to play it with him. Along his actuarial journey, Harry has passed 5 exams and dabbled in both life and P&C, as well as both insurance and consulting roles. He has previously served as Director of Accommodations, Director of Special Projects, and VP Ontario. Outside of actuarial science, one of Harry’s greatest passions is public speaking. He has been a public speaking coach for the past six years, and he believes that public speaking is a skill that anyone can develop, no matter how afraid they think they are!

Mengding Tian, Director of Marketing

Mengding is a fourth-year Actuarial Mathematics/Finance student at Concordia University. She has passed 3 exams and she is dedicated to writing more before she graduates. Her passion for helping other students led her to take on many leadership roles within the community. She is the former Director of Operations for the 2022 convention and she also held the position of VP External for MASSA, the Mathematics, Actuarial and Statistics Student Association, where she started a podcast initiative.  She has internship experience at Normandin Beaudry, Mercer, TD Insurance and will complete her final one at Sun Life, allowing her to gain valuable knowledge across different fields. 

Mengding enjoys learning new things and trying new activities. Some of her hobbies include doing nail art, watching TV shows, running, and trying new restaurants. This year, she is happy to take on the position of Director of Marketing and she is very excited to meet all of you!

Vaishanve Manoharan, Director of Logistics and Finance

Vaishnave is a third-year Actuarial Science and Statistics student at the University of Waterloo. She is interning at Sun Life in the Fall as an Actuarial Analyst. She’s been a co-op at Intact and Deloitte in previous years. She has been attending ANÉA-ASNA since 2020 and is looking forward to being part of the team this year.

Besides her passion for actuarial science and data science, Vaishnave loves painting, dancing, drinking boba and watching docuseries. She is looking forward to meeting everyone at next year’s convention.

Danny Su, Director of Special Projects

Danny is a fourth-year Actuarial Science and Statistics student at the University of Toronto. He enjoys participating in competitions and is also a passionate mentor now serving the UofT ActSci community as the ActSci club’s Mentorship Liaison and had managed a mentorship program called Your Actuarial Buddy Mentorship Program in the past. Being able to see mentees grow and build the ActSci community is what excites him the most.

He has internship experiences at Intact and PwC and will be interning at Sun Life and Deloitte in 2023. In addition, he has passed Exam FM and is pursuing Exam P.

In his spare time, Danny enjoys hiking, running, and exploring the city trying out different food and bubble tea shops. For ASNA 2023, he will be the Director of Special Projects and he is very excited to work with the convention team and grow with the team members.

Natiah Randrianasolo, Director of Operations

Natiah is a fourth-year Co-op student at Concordia University pursuing a Specialization in Actuarial Mathematics. She has actuarial internship experience at Lifeworks, TD Insurance and currently interning at Sunlife Financial in Toronto.  

Natiah attended her first convention as a volunteer in 2020 and was the Director of Events for the ASNA 2022 convention. She is excited to be joining the team this year as Director of Operations. She aims to prepare fun and useful welcoming gifts for the attendees and help the volunteers have a memorable convention experience. Besides her passion for finance and actuarial science, she is a fan of music, loves going on adventures and traveling. On top of everything, she also loves to meet new people and is always ready to have fun! Don’t hesitate to say hi when you see her around! 

Rachel Ferno, Director of Events

Rachel is a fifth year student at the University of Toronto studying Actuarial Science and Statistics. She has passed 4 actuarial exams and interned at OSFI, Canada Life, Intact, and Sun Life. Rachel is passionate about helping actuarial students succeed, which has led her to become the President of the University of Toronto Actuarial Science Club, peer mentor at the University of Toronto, and now Director of Events of ANÉA-ASNA. Rachel is thrilled to be part of the Convention Committee and looks forward to meeting you all at the upcoming convention!

Ronak Gandhi, Director of Sales

Ronak is a third year student at Concordia University. He has completed an internship at Intact (winter 2022), is working at Sun Life (summer 2022) and has his next internships at Munich Re (fall 2022) and Deloitte (summer 2023). He has 5 exams under his belt (P, FM, IFM, LTAM, SRM) and plans to write another in the upcoming year. After being a Concordia Delegate member last year, he is excited to run for Concordia Head Delegate as well as Director of Sales.

Ronak is very keen when it comes to engaging in his community which led him to volunteer in the actuarial association at Concordia as well as ANÉA-ASNA. He is a very driven, ambitious and hard-working individual who seeks for opportunities to grow professionally and personally. His endeavour is to promote ANÉA-ASNA to aspiring actuaries across the nation, and provide resources to help students expand their horizons and thrive in their career. Outside of the actuarial world, Ronak is an avid basketball fanatic, a big foodie, enjoys listening to hip-hop music and having a great time with friends. He loves meeting new people so feel free to reach out to him!

Elina Kong-Sar, Director of Design

Elina is a fourth-year Actuarial Mathematics student at Concordia University and has exam P and FM under her belt. She is currently working at Mercer and will be interning at Sun Life in Summer 2023. She joined the 2021-2022 ANÉA-ASNA team as the Director of Marketing and is now returning to the team as the Director of Design. Her main goal this year is to increase ANÉA-ASNA’s visibility and notoriety across Canada. She will not only leverage her technical knowledge but also her creativity in order to implement design strategies that will help the team reach a wider scope of sponsors and students.

Besides school and work, Elina loves boxing, going on adventures, and traveling. She has a keen passion for the beauty world as she previously worked as a makeup artist. Her artistic side will definitely transpire through her work as a Director of Design. You can expect nothing less than valuable, original and aesthetically-pleasing content from her. Tanisha Pimplikar, Director of Accommodations

Tanisha is a second year student at the University of Waterloo in the Bachelors of Mathematics Honors program double majoring in Actuarial Science and Statistics. She has passed 3 actuarial exam and is on her way to writing her 4th. She has worked at Sun Life and Intact for her 2 co-op terms so far. She enjoys being involved in student clubs and has been an executive of the UW Actuarial Science Club and Chaired the Quantify 2022 Case Competition. She enjoys listening to music as well as watching Formula 1 and W-Series racing. She loves having coffee chats with people so make sure you say hi!

Nikhil Kakadiya, Executive Director

Nikhil is a graduate from the University of Waterloo where he completed an undergrad in the Economics Program. He first started as the Director of Sales on the convention committee in 2018. Following that he has grown with the organization holding various positions such Director of Logistics and Finance (Montreal 2019) and Convention Chair (Niagara 2020). After that, Nikhil went onto becoming the President of the organization. He now is on the Board of Directors as the Executive Director.

Amine Ben Arous, Convention Director

Amine recently graduated from the Actuarial Science program at Concordia University. During his university degree, Amine completed 6 internships and 2 actuarial exams. Amine loves volunteering and community building which led him to be the President of MASSA (Actuarial Club at Concordia) as well as being involved in many roles with ASNA, including being the Convention Chair of the association for the 2021/22 mandate.

Amine now works at Sun Life in Montreal and looks forward to sharing his experiences by advising the 2022/23 ASNA team on Convention-related affairs. Outside of work, Amine is passionate by sports (soccer and tennis in particular) as well as travelling around the globe!

Liddie-Beth Palmers, Strategic Director

Liddie-Beth is an actuarial consultant at Ernst & Young on the life and health team. She graduated from the University Of Waterloo in 2021. She began her ANEA-ASNA journey as the Director of Marketing for the 2019 convention and later served as the President of the association for the 2020/21 term. Liddie-Beth is passionate about the value that ASNA offers actuarial students and look forward to sharing her experiences with the 2022/2023 team.

Ronak Gandhi, Concordia University

Ronak is a third year student at Concordia University. Patrick Young, Carleton University

Carleton University student in his final year of a B.Math in Statistics. Currently in an 8 month Co-Op with Canada Life. He’s an avid woodworker and gamer who also enjoys sewing, cooking, and learning new instruments. He loves learning new languages, traveling, and collecting bowties. Additionally, he occasionally like to dabble in cocktail making and various renovation projects.

Jacob Miller, Dalhousie University

Jacob is going into his final semester at Dalhousie University with a major in actuarial science and minor in business. He has finished exams FM, P and IFM. He has completed work terms with LifeWorks (pension) and Canada Life (Insurance Risk Management). Currently in summer 2022 he is working with the life reinsurance side of Athene. Kevin Wang, McGill University

Kevin Wang is a second-year student pursuing a joint major in Statistics and Computer Science (minor in Finance) at McGill University. He is currently the Vice President of Communications at McGill Students’ Actuarial Association (MSAA) and has previously interned at Intact Financial Corporation. Outside of his studies, he is a big fan of sports—most notably basketball and American football. James Dong, University of Calgary

Jason is entering his final year at the University of Calgary. He first joined ASNA as a peer mentor in 2021, and that motivated him to contribute more for the actuarial students. He hopes to expand his actuarial community and get more connections with the nearby universities. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing basketball with his friends which is an efficient way for him to release the exams pressure.

Yuqing Liu, University of Toronto

Yuqing Liu is a third-year student at University of Toronto. She is currently pursuing a specialist degree in Actuarial Science and a minor in Statistics. Attending ASNA’s annual career fair in 2022 was a great experience, so she decided to take this experience further serving as a Head Delegate of University of Toronto. She is looking forward to collaborating with the ASNA community to engage awareness about ASNA events within actuarial community at University of Toronto.

Shrey Desai, York University

Shrey is a final year student at York University. He has always attended ASNA since the time he has joined York and ASNA has helped him in abundance. He is also interested in Financial Mathematics and observes the financial and commodities markets very closely.

Tara Cyr, University of Manitoba

Tara is a fourth- year actuarial student at the University of Manitoba. She has completed both exam P and FM and will be starting her third internship at Wawanesa this Fall. She is very excited to represent the U of M at this years conference and to help fellow students!

Hubert Phu, University of Waterloo

Hubert Phu is a 3rd year student at the University of Waterloo, currently completing a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics.  His journey with ASNA started when participating in the 2021 Case Competition.  His first internship was at GDA Capital in the summer of 2021, and he will be writing Exam P and FM in the year 2023.  He will be working as a P&C Actuarial Intern at SCOR Group in the Fall of 2022.

 

Aahuti Dave, McMaster University

Aahuti Dave s a third-year student pursuing a honours degree in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics at McMaster University while minoring in Accounting and Financial Management Services. She attended ASNA 2021 and is currently preparing for Exam FM. She is a member of the McMaster Actuarial Society as VP Operations and Website Developer. Michelle Mcburney, University of Regina

Michelle is a third-year actuarial science student at the University of Regina. She is currently the Vice President of the mathematics, actuarial science, and statistics students society at the University of Regina. She is currently preparing for FM and hopes to complete the exam in August. Riddhima Upreti, University of Prince Edward Island

Riddhima is a third year student at the University of Prince Edward Island currently majoring in Actuarial Science with Pre – professional Specialization. She attended ASNA for the first time in 2022 and knew right away that she wanted to be a part of this well – networked community. She hopes to help the growing Actuarial Science community in her university, network with other aspiring actuaries. Riddhima always enjoys interacting with people and is looking forward to representing the University of Prince Edward Island this year. She also enjoys playing Tennis and Swimming. Maaz Ahmed, University of Windsor

Maaz Ahmed is a second-year Graduate student at the University of Windsor pursuing Actuarial Science. He has a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from one of India’s premier institutes and has held multiple positions in technical and leadership capacities. He is presently the Vice-President of the Windsor Actuarial Club.

Through his first convention in 2022, Maaz found ASNA to be an excellent means of learning more about Actuarial Science and meeting like-minded people. This made him pledge a more involved position as Head Delegate for UWindsor. In his free time, he enjoys reading, table tennis, music and is an avid F1 fan. Maaz can be contacted through LinkedIn. 

Summer Shan, Simon Fraser University

Summer Shan is a second-year MSc in Actuarial Science candidate at the Simon Fraser University. She has been attending the ASNA convention since 2021 and has received valuable networking and interviewing opportunities through the event.
