2021-2022 Executives

Nikhil Kakadiya, President

Nikhil is a fourth-year Economics student at the University of Waterloo with a great passion for the insurance industry and an actuarial career path. He has held an actuarial co-op role at Canada Life and is currently a co-op at RBC Insurance. After handling the positions of President-Elect, Convention Chair, Director of Logistics and Finance, and Director of Sales, he looks forward to leading a team of students from all around Canada to grow ANÉA-ASNA and to serve the Actuarial Student Community. He has attended 5 ASNA conventions, from 2017 to 2021. This year, he strives to bring all the enthusiasm he has for the actuarial community in working with a talented team to grow ASNA. As this year’s President, his goal is to help make the annual convention another great success and to expand the outreach of ANÉA-ASNA so that as many students as possible get to experience the fantastic benefits that the organization has to offer.

Sarah Han, President-Elect

Sarah is a fourth-year student at the University of Toronto pursuing a double major in Actuarial Science and Physics, with a minor in Mathematics. She has passed exams P and FM, and has past and upcoming co-op roles at RSA/Intact, Foresters, and Manulife. Sarah has previously held the role of Director of Events for ANÉA-ASNA 2021 and is honoured to be serving as President-Elect for this year. She looks forward to learning about the various needs of actuarial students and working with her talented team to further develop ANÉA-ASNA’s offerings into more accessible and engaging programs to students across Canada. Amine Ben Arous; Convention Chair

Amine Ben Arous is a fourth-year actuarial student at Concordia University. He has completed internships at National Bank Insurance, Sun Life, Manulife, Munich Re and looks forward to completing internships at Sun Life in Fall 2021 and Mercer in Winter 2022. Back in Concordia, Amine also serves as the finance coordinator of ASFA, the student-run organisation representing the largest faculty at Concordia. Amine is also doing a research project entitled “Insurance strategies by derivative financial instruments: an approach by the artificial intelligence method”, so if you have an interest for research, he would love to hear about it!
After really enjoying his experience as the Future Actuary in 2020 and the Director of Logistics and Finance in 2021, Amine is very excited to serve as the Convention Chair this year and to work with an amazing Convention Committee to plan the ANÉA-ASNA 2022 Convention!

Vanessa Li, VP Finance

Vanessa is a third-year student at the University of Waterloo double majoring in Actuarial Science and Statistics. She currently serves as the President at the UW Actuarial Science Club and has worked at Canada Life and Sun Life. Having attended two ASNA conventions, with one in-person and one virtual, she now holds the position of Vice-President of Finance and is focused on budget planning and financial decision-making contingent on the form of the convention this year. She hopes to assist the team to bring another year of excellence to students and employers.
In her spare time, Vanessa enjoys baking and reading mystery novels. She is also a big fan of Brooklyn 99. She cannot wait for this year’s participants to experience what the team has planned!

Abdullah Aziz, VP Business Relations

Abdullah is a fourth-year student at Western university pursuing double majors in Actuarial Science and Economics. As an international student, Abdullah has been involved with ASNA from the first month of his life in Canada. His first ASNA convention was in his first year in Canada as an attendee and a volunteer. He was Western’s delegate in ASNA 2020, followed by heading the delegate team in ASNA 2021. Abdullah joined the Convention Committee as the Director of Accommodations in the previous year where he continued to showcase his passion for the actuarial department by representing the student voice. This year he looks forward for a special role as VP External for ANEA-ASNA 2022 and all its logistics that it partakes. Abdullah is a huge sports fanatic, both as a player and watcher of many games. Melissa Sadi, VP Quebec

Melissa is a third-year student at Concordia University in Actuarial Mathematics with a minor in Finance. She has passed three actuarial exams and plans on continuing writing some this year. She has interned at Intact and will be interning at Morneau Shepell during the fall. Melissa attended her first ASNA convention in 2019 and volunteered.  As Vice President Quebec, her main goal is to promote the convention to all students across Quebec universities and to increase the engagement of French speaking students. Melissa loves to bake and enjoys playing soccer with her friends. She loves meeting new people so don’t be shy to say hi!

Farzaan Nathoo-Kehdri, VP Ontario

Farzaan is a fourth-year Actuarial Science student at the University of Waterloo. He has passed Exams P, FM, and IFM, and is planning on writing Exam MAS-I later this year. He has internship experience as an actuarial analyst at RSA, RGA, and Intact, and has future internships planned at Lyft and Intact for the remainder of 2021.
Farzaan has a passion for community engagement, which has led him to taking on roles as a Student Ambassador for the University of Waterloo, VP of the UW ActSci Club, former VP Communications of ANÉA-ASNA, and now VP Ontario of ANÉA-ASNA. He is very excited to be rejoining the executive team for the 2021-2022 term. Besides his passion for actuarial science, Farzaan is also a huge fan of sports, comedy, and hip-hop. He also loves meeting new people, so be sure to say hi if you see him around!

Gabriel Penalver, VP Atlantic

Gabriel Penalver is a third-year student at the University of Prince Edward Island, pursuing a double major in Actuarial Science and Statistics, along with a minor in Business Administration. He joins ASNA in 2021 as both the VP Atlantic and UPEI’s Head Delegate. He will be working as a strategic planner with Service Canada this summer. Gabriel is preparing to write SOA exam P this July.
His main goal this year is to continue to push for sustained growth in the field of
Actuarial Science for students in the Atlantic region.
Gabriel is a sports fanatic, both as a fan and a baseball player. He loves meeting new people so don’t hesitate to connect with him via LinkedIn or say hi if you see him around!

Brixton Reid, VP West

Brixton Reid is a fifth-year actuarial student at the University of Manitoba. He has completed Exam FM and Exam IFM. Brixton attended his very first ASNA convention in 2020 and he attended last years online conference. He is thrilled to be moving up to VP West and to help be apart of this year’s conference. He had success at this year’s conference and hopes to help others achieve such success. Brixton is very excited to be apart of the actuarial community and he can be reached via LinkedIn.

Jessica Zhang, VP Case Competition

Jessica is a fourth-year student studying actuarial science at the University of Toronto. She has passed 3 actuarial exams and interned as an actuarial co-op at TDI, Sun Life and Northbridge.
Jessica is passionate about showing students the value of getting involved in projects such as case competitions. She believes that case competitions are great opportunities develop essential actuarial skills. As such, her goal is to encourage more students to get involved in the ASNA case competition this year.

Juntae Park, VP Communications

Juntae is a second year student at the University of Toronto majoring in Actuarial Science. He has a great passion for the insurance and finance industries, and will be interning for Milliman while also taking exams P and FM this summer.
After an amazing experience at ANÉA-ASNA 2021, Juntae is excited to join the 2022 Executive team as the Vice President of Communications. He looks forward to another wonderful year of ASNA and hopes to give back to the actuarial community.

Samantha Intranuovo, VP Administration

Samantha is an upcoming second year student at Western University pursuing an Honors Double Major in Actuarial Science and Consumer Behaviour. She is currently interning at RBC and preparing to write Exam P. In her free time she can be found playing lacrosse, going for walks or playing a good board game with some friends. After her first convention in 2021 she knew she had to get involved in this amazing organization, and is very excited to meet all of you!

Coral McCuen, VP Special Projects

Coral McCuen is in her final year of studies in the Actuarial Science Program at the University of Manitoba. She has passed exams P, FM and IFM. Coral has completed internships at RSA, Willis Towers Watson, Canada Life and Sunlife. Coral has previously been a part of ASNA as VP West in 2021 and the Head Delegate of the University of Manitoba in 2020. Coral looks forward to making her last convention as a student, the best year yet!

Yassine Ghalem, Webmaster

Yassine is completing his final semester of Actuarial Science studies at Concordia University in Montreal.  For a few years, he ran his own web development agency, where he consulted for various small businesses.

He completed several life internship positions in various areas (Valuation, Corporate Insurance Risk Management, Reinsurance, Capital Management).

As the webmaster, Yassine will leverage his web development expertise with the goal to serve and give back to the actuarial community.  His aim for the current year is to consolidate the ASNA brand with a solid digital transformation.  He looks forward to meeting you all at the ASNA 2022 Convention.

Amisha Laad, Future Actuary

Amisha is a second year Actuarial Science student at the University of Waterloo. She has passed exams FM and P, and will be writing IFM this year. She will be interning as an Actuarial Analyst at Sun Life during summer 2021. Amisha has been a part of various extra curricular activities such as participating in Actuarial Case Competitions : Munich Re Cup 2021, UW-Quantify 2020, and mentoring first year mathematics students in her university. Her passion and interest for the industry has led her to the role of Future Actuary. In her spare time she likes reading, watching movies and hiking. She looks forward to meeting you all at the 2022 ASNA Convention.

Dante Buratto, Director of Sponsorship

Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario. Currently in 3rd year mathematics & statistics at University of Windsor. Passed 3 actuarial exams and working at New York Life insurance in May. Graduating next spring. Spent 2 years in ASNA as Head delegate and VP finance.

Elina Kong-Sar, Director of Marketing

Elina is a third-year Actuarial Mathematics student at Concordia University and has the FM and P exam under her belt. She is currently working at iA Financial Group (Industrial Alliance) and will have the opportunity to be an Actuarial analyst Intern there in Fall 2021. She joined the 2021-2022 ANÉA-ASNA team as the Director of Marketing and as the Concordia University Head Delegate after attending the ANÉA-ASNA convention, where she gained a new perspective and outlook regarding the importance of networking with professionals and other aspiring actuaries. Her main goal is to increase ANÉA-ASNA’s visibility and notoriety across Canada. She will not only leverage her technical knowledge but also her creativity in order to implement marketing strategies that will help the team reach a wider scope.
Besides school and work, Elina loves boxing, going on adventures, and traveling. She is also co-managing a small sweets business with her sister. She has a keen passion for the beauty world as she previously worked as a makeup artist. Her artistic side will definitely transpire through her work as a Director of Marketing. Thurell Tchana,Director of Logistics and Finance

Thurell is an upcoming third-year student majoring in Actuarial Mathematics at Concordia University. He’ll also be the Vice-President Academic of MASSA Concrodia (Mathematics, Actuarial and Statistics Student Association) for 2021-2022. He is currently completing his second internship with Mercer, after completing his first one with Intact Iast Fall. He will be sitting for Exam 3/IFM in July and Exam STAM in October, after passing Exams 1/P and 2/FM last year.
Thurell has been attending ANÉA-ASNA since 2019 and he’s looking forward to join the Convention Team this year filled with highly motivated and ambitious people. As the Director of Logistics and Finances, he will be in charge of coordinating with the hotel the logistical aspects of the convention, as well as managing the budget of the convention alongside the VP Finance.
When he is not getting involved in student life or just studying, Thurell loves to play and watch soccer, go to the gym and watch Netflix shows like Casa de Papel or Ozark. Harry Qu, Director of Special Projects

Harry is a third-year Actuarial Science/Finance and Statistics student at the University of Waterloo. He has passed 3 exams and interned at EY, Manulife, and KPMG. Harry has served previously as the Director of Accommodation and VP Ontario, and he is excited to have to privilege of working on special projects in support of the actuarial student community this year. When he is not going to actuarial events, Harry enjoys public speaking, playing board games, and watching cat videos on the internet. He looks forward to meeting you all at the ASNA 2022 convention!

Vaishnave Manoharan, Director of Special Projects

Vaishnave is a second-year Actuarial Science and Statistics student at the University of Waterloo. She is currently interning at Intact Financial Corporation in the DataLab as an Actuarial Analyst. She is also the VP of Finance for the UW Actsci Club Winter 2021 and an Orientation Leader for the Math Faculty. She has been attending ANÉA-ASNA since 2020 and is looking forward to being part of the team this year.
Besides her passion for actuarial science and data science, Vaishnave loves painting, dancing, drinking boba and watching docuseries. She is looking forward to meeting everyone at next year’s convention.

Mengding Tian, Director of Operations

Mengding is a third-year Actuarial Mathematics/Finance student at Concordia University. In the past year, she held the position of Vice-President External Affairs for MASSA, the Mathematics, Actuarial and Statistics Student Association, where she started a podcast initiative. She passed Exam FM, P and IFM in 2020 and will be sitting for her next exam in the next months. She previously interned at Normandin Beaudry and will be starting her next internship at Mercer.
She enjoys learning new things and trying new activities. Mengding has many hobbies including doing nail art, watching TV shows, running, and trying new restaurants. This year she wishes to bring new ideas to the table as the Director of Operations and she is very excited to meet all of you!

Natiah Randrianasolo, Director of Events

Natiah is a third-year Co-op student at Concordia University pursuing a Specialization in Actuarial Mathematics. She has actuarial internship experience at Morneau Shepell and will be interning at TD Insurance later this year.
Back in Concordia, she was also a member of the academic committee of MASSA and has helped organizing social and academic events throughout the year. Natiah has attended her first ASNA convention as a volunteer in 2020 and is excited to be joining the ASNA 2022 team as Director of Events. She aims to plan exciting and engaging events to make the ASNA Convention a memorable experience. Besides her passion for finance and actuarial science, she is a fan of music, loves going on adventures and traveling. Muhammad Raza Nasser, Director of Sales

Muhammad Raza Nasser is a third-year Actuarial Science student at the University of Waterloo and has been a part of the ANEA-ASNA community for the past three years.
He has been involved with ASNA in the capacity of Registration Administrator, Delegate and Head Delegate and will now be working with the convention team as the Director of Sales. He has further showcased his passion for Actuarial Science by passing exams P and FM. Additionally, he will also be joining Echelon Insurance as an Actuarial Intern this summer.
Besides his passion for actuarial science, Raza is also a huge sports fan, especially soccer.

Fong Liu, Director of Design

Fong is a first-year student at the University of Waterloo with a great passion in actuarial science. She is pursuing Exam P over the summer. She attended ASNA for the first time during the 2020/2021 convention and had an excellent experience which made her decide to join ASNA’s leadership team. This year, she serves as the Director of Design as well as the Delegate for the University of Waterloo, and she is thrilled to help promoting ASNA with her experience in graphic design!
Fong also enjoys engaging in school activities, and she is an active member and the Publicity Director of University of Waterloo’s Actuarial Science club. Besides learning how cool actuarial science is, she also enjoys swimming, morning run, reading, and making new friends! She is excited to meet you all during the 2022 convention!

Rachel Fermo, Director of Accommodations

Rachel is a third year student at the University of Toronto studying Actuarial Science and Statistics. She has previously interned at OSFI and is currently interning at Canada Life for Summer 2021. She has passed Exams P and FM and will be sitting for IFM later this year.
Rachel is passionate about helping actuarial students succeed, which has led her to become a peer mentor at the University of Toronto, Social Director of University of Toronto’s Actuarial Science Club, and now Director of Accommodations of ANÉA-ASNA. Liddie-Beth Palmers, Executive Director

Liddie-Beth is a fourth-year student at the University of Waterloo majoring in Actuarial Science and Statistics. She was the previous President of the Actuarial Students’ National Association for the 2020/21 term and looks forward to sharing her experiences when advising the ASNA 2021/22 team. She has passed 6 SOA exams and has actuarial internship experience at Ernst & Young, Willis Towers Watson, and Canada Life Insurance.

Angel Yang, Strategic Director

Angel graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2020. She first started with ASNA as the VP Case Competition and later on became the president. In total, Angel has already spent 4 great years with ASNA-ANEA. Currently, Angel is a member of the Advanced Analytics at Economical Insurance.

Elina Kong-Sar, Concordia University

Elina is a third-year Actuarial Mathematics student at Concordia University and has the FM and P exam under her belt. Patrick Young, Carleton University

After failed attempts in both engineering and physics, I finally found my true calling in statistics and the Actuarial field. As one of the very few members from Carleton University, I hope to build up and expand our own small program and help connect our neighboring schools in the nation’s capital. Ottawa born and raised, I enjoy hiking, video games, and cooking. I also dabble in Woodworking, gardening, and learning obscure new instruments. I live at home with my 2 dogs and I’m always happy to share pictures of them!

Jacob Miller, Dalhousie University

Jacob is currently a fourth-year Actuarial Science major at Dalhousie University. After attending ASNA for the first time in 2020, Jacob immediately knew he wanted to take a position where he could help ASNA and his university. This is his second year as a delegate for Dalhousie. He is currently the head of Dalhousie’s Actuarial Science Society and strives to promote Actuarial Science at Dalhousie and continues to push for a greater Dalhousie attendance at ASNA.
He has previous work experience as an Actuarial Analyst at LifeWorks (formally Morneau Shepell) working in retirement solutions.

Hassan Elrakhawy, McGill University

Hassan Elrakhawy is a second year student at McGill University studying Business and Majoring in Mathematics. He is currently studying for the IFM with the intention of taking it November. He also attended the ASNA Convention in Niagara falls back in 2019 and found it very useful especially since he is not pursuing an actuarial program. He is now doing his second internship at Munich re which he got at the 2021 with the help of ASNA. He is excited to be head delegate for McGill and hopes to bring many people from there to ASNA . Hannah Edel, University of Calgary

Hannah Edel is a third year student studying actuarial science at the University of Calgary. Attending her first ASNA conference in 2021 she was eager to help out and motivated to become an actuary. She is also an executive on her universities actuarial club. When Hannah is not studying she enjoys travelling, shopping, and singing. Youyi (Daisy) Ding, University of Toronto

Daisy is a third-year student at University of Toronto pursuing a specialist in Actuarial Science, and a major in Computer Science. Her experience since ASNA 2020 has inspired her to be more involved in this amazing ASNA community. She has completed Exams P/1 and FM/2, and is sitting for Exam IFM/3 in fall 2021. She will be starting her first internship with Manulife in fall 2021. She has also been heavily involved in the University of Toronto actuarial science community. She served as a Second-Year Representative in the past year and is currently serving as the Mentorship Liaison. She believes her past experience with the school actuarial science community can help her better represent University of Toronto as the Head Delegate. Saif Anam, York University

Saif Anam is a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Actuarial Science. As an international student, he has had to persevere through his own set of rigorous challenges along with the ones tackled to becoming an actuary. However, his determination to overcome these set of challenges, among other things, is fueled by the goal of becoming the 7th Bengali in the world to hold the title of actuary as a profession.

Chang Shen, University of Manitoba

Chang Shen is a forth-year actuarial student at the University of Manitoba. She has completed Exam FM and P in June and September of 2020, and now she is preparing to write Exam LTAM in October. Chang attended her first ASNA convention in 2021, she was amazed by how incredible ASNA convention was for actuarial students in Canada to network and learn more about insurance industries. Alix Dubeau, Laval University

Alix Dubeau is a second-year student majoring in Actuarial Science at Université Laval in Québec city. She is currently Vice President to external affairs for the actuarial student association. She underwent her first internship in the summer of 2021 as a data analyst. As a head delegate, she aspires to promote ASNA within the Université Laval community and she will gladly help students with any questions and concerns they may have about the event. Shreya Joshi is a second-year student majoring in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics at McMaster University. She attended ASNA 2020 and is currently preparing for Exam P. She is a member of the McMaster Actuarial Society acting as a PR and Marketing assistant. She is excited represent her university at ASNA 2021 and meet new people and build new relationships! Kathelyn Koo, University of Regina

Kat is a third year student at University of Regina majoring in Actuarial Science. She is currently working for her last term with Canadalife before she goes back and finishes her last year of her degree in September. She has five SOA exam credits so far, continuing to work towards her ASA designation. After attending her first ASNA convention in 2019, she has been highly motivated to become an actuary and to help ASNA and her university. She is very excited to be a part of 2022 ASNA representing her university as a head delegate.
