Where can I learn more about the Case Competition and how do I register?

Unfortunately, registration for the case competition has expired.

This year’s case is titled Introducing ANÉA-ASNA’s 2022 Case Competition: An Actuarial Approach to Predicting Pandemic Uncertainty!

Teams can consist of up to 4 students and there is no fee to participate in the case competition (although you will have to be registered to attend the ANÉA-ASNA 2022 Convention). Cross-university and non-member university teams are also welcome.

You can learn more about the case on the ANÉA-ASNA Case Competition Website (https://anea-asna.ca/casecompetition).  If there are further questions, email asna.casecompetition@gmail.com.

Do I need to register for the convention if I am a volunteer?

Yes, you still need to register and pay the convention fee to become a volunteer. As a volunteer, you  enjoy special privileges and benefits at the conference such as interacting directly with sponsors outside the career fair.

Will volunteering take up a lot of my time?

Many past ANÉA-ASNA attendees who were volunteers could enjoy the perks of being both an attendee and volunteer. Volunteers will be assigned to 2-3 volunteering time slots for the entire weekend.

There are added benefits when you decide to volunteer with ANÉA-ASNA. You will be given a unique wristband that will indicate to sponsors that you are a volunteer. This will allow for additional networking and interaction opportunities with sponsors at the convention.

As a volunteer you will receive the same ANÉA-ASNA experience as a registered student. Your volunteering responsibilities will not hinder any activities you participate in such as the career fair, seminars, presentations, etc.

When is the volunteer application deadline?

The volunteer application is open from November 1st, 2021 to November 30th, 2021.

The application can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScLQ_IG61xhE_L2UoxNCmJ7IhmsMNxtDkyCYoI7Ban7vtCm1A/viewform

Is attendance at events mandatory?

Attendance to any event, seminar, workshop, or networking event is completely optional to the student. Students can decide which events peak their interest and attend those. In addition, it is totally normal to miss certain events due to interviews throughout the weekend.

What is the dress code for the convention?

Events during the ANÉA-ASNA weekend range from business casual to business formal to semi-formal. Bring an assortment of clothes appropriate for seminars, career fair, interviews, and social/club nights. Dress codes for each event will be explicitly conveyed to students within the Convention booklet.

I have specific dietary restrictions, how can I inform the convention committee?

Please specify any dietary restrictions on the registration form.

What should I bring or prepare for the career fair?

You can attend the ANÉA-ASNA info session that happens at your university for insider tips on how to best prepare for the career fair.  You can also attend the “How to succeed” webinars that will be presented in December 2021 and January 2022 to best prepare for the convention.

Please bring printed copies of your resume and cover letter to distribute to sponsors during the career fair. Make sure to research each company you are interested in to help guide the conversation with company reps. The career fair is a networking event so preparing a few questions to ask company reps will show genuine interest. Above all, ensure the conversation is not robotic or unnatural and make your personality shine.

At what time will the interviews and coffee connections be announced?

Historically interview and coffee connection times are announced early Saturday morning. It takes a lot of effort and time from the Convention team to collect information from sponsors and complete the scheduling. Aim to check the ANÉA-ASNA website either Saturday at 2:00 a.m or in the morning at 6:00 a.m. Coffee connections start as early as 8:00 a.m. so please check the schedule before that using your ANÉA-ASNA ID. We will also send an email to alert students that the schedule has been announced.

How can I find more information about the location and hotel accommodations?

You can visit the ANÉA-ASNA website for more information about Toronto and our venue. If you have further questions, please contact us by e-mail and we will get back to you.
